Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Summary

The Senior FPGA Design Engineer is responsible for developing next generation avionics for the commercial aviation industry. The individual will be able to design, test, and integrate complex, high-speed FPGAs. This individual will work closely with hardware and software engineers during the test and integration phases. Additionally, they will be responsible for design, documentation, implementation, and testing verification.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Hardware and Software teams on FPGA system requirements
  • Working with Sr Hardware Engineers on overall system board design
  • Design of the FPGA subsystems for data transfer and data processing
  • Modeling of the ADC data processing utilizing FIR filters, CORDIC, Quadrature Down- Conversion, Reed-Solomon decoding.
  • Modeling of the DAC data processing utilizing I-Q Modulation, Reed-Solomon Encoding and IIR Filtering.
  • Selection and procurement for FPGA components
  • Assisting in the testing of high-performance FPGA-based boards and systems
  • Achieve company goals associated with cost, quality, and delivery schedule as related to the
  • assigned design activities.
  • Provide time and cost estimates for projects.
  • Provide risk assessment and risk mitigation for technical and schedule issues.
  • Make FPGA configuration changes to support customer specific installations.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS or MS ins Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years FPGA design experience; within an aerospace company a plus.
  • Demonstrated Experience with Intel Quartus Design Suite and Mentor Modelsim
  • Design experience using Intel Cyclone V FPGA families
  • Strong knowledge of FPGA tool flow; Synthesis, Partitioning, Place & Route, timing closure
  • Strengths in VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog, test-benches, simulation, automation, and debug are a plus.
  • Prior experience with lab equipment including meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators.
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-254 Standard for Airborne Electronic Systems is recommended
  • Generate block diagrams for various design concepts and circuit topologies
  • Analysis and Modeling Tools (MS Excel, Matlab)
  • Documentation Tools (MS Word/PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe)
  • Experienced in scripting/programming ideally Python, Tcl
  • Collaborate with other cross-functional team leads and engineers to plan and execute projects
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving skills
  • U.S. citizen and U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) required
