Summary

Inspects products manufactured or processed by private companies for use to ensure compliance with contract specifications by performing the following duties. Develop and document manufacturing procedures in an AS9100 QMS environment to achieve consistent, high-quality, best-cost processing. Serve as a focal point of communication between manufacturing, engineering, and other functions, facilitating efficient implementation of new products and processes. Plan and coordinate elements of type designs, materials and manufacturing processes as required to evaluate and solve production problems.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support of all AS9100 Quality Management System certification activities, including auditing, planning, implementing, and maintaining Quality processes and systems.
  • Provide QMS training and guidance to internal key stakeholders, to build, implement and improve policy, procedures and systems that meet FreeFlight Systems business objectives.
  • Assess and optimize core business processes through internal audits to ensure conformance to QMS policies and procedures in accordance with AS9100/ISO 9001 standard, FAA and EASA regulations as well as customer requirements.
  • Measure and monitor Target Attainment Plans and support the generation of monthly QMS metric reports and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop QMS Continuous Improvement Plans including resources needed, timeline with critical path and milestones using Project Management best practices and Lean principles to achieve the goals of the QMS.
  • Review and approve supplier surveys and certifications to maintain the currency of the Approved Vendor List and new supplier approvals.
  • Develop Quality Control Plans applying Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) utilizing Process Flow Diagrams, System FMEAs, Cause-and-effect analysis, Product Critical Characteristics and First Article Inspections.
  • Maintain and support a multi-site Calibration Control program.
  • Review Quality Control data of soldering and conformal coating of Electronic Circuit Card Assemblies using IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
  • Lead Material Review Board to support inventory goals and provide expedient supplier feedback.
  • Generate and manage Supplier Corrective Action and review supplier root cause analysis and corrective action response.
  • Generate and deploy Supplier Scorecards.
  • Support Supplier on-site visits.
  • Provide clear communication and feedback between the Engineering team and the Quality team.
  • Support the transition of products from Engineering development to Production with the generation and implementation of documentation of Critical to Quality inspection points and characteristics. This includes the review and approval of New Product Parts, Material Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders.
  • Participate in Design Reviews and First Article Inspections and provide Quality risk analysis with innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Lead efforts to uncover Root-Cause and develop permanent resolutions on Quality issues found during Quality Control, Production, Product Testing and Customer feedback.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Advance use of MS Excel with a focus on report generation using forms and VBA macros.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience working as a Quality Engineer with a focus on electronics.
  •  CCAs and mechanical assembly.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience working in a regulated environment.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience with control of nonconforming hardware, failure/root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action methodologies.
  • Experienced with CCA circuit diagrams and mechanical specifications.
  • Experience working with Material Review Board and material disposition.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, APQP, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with management, technical teams, and all organization’s business units.
  • Ability to lead and contribute independently with a strong work ethic.
  • Must be innovative, detail-oriented, possess initiative, be positive, and be people-oriented.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, and capable of managing priorities and tasks as delegated.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Avionics industry experience.5 years of direct experience working as Quality Engineer with a focus on electronic CCAs and mechanical assemblies.
  • 5 years of direct experience working in a regulated environment such as FAA, ISO 9001 and/orAS9100.
  • 5 years if experience applying PFMEA/FMECA methods and Statistical Process Control.
  • 3 years of application of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)and root cause analysis.
  • Solid understanding of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
  • Application of Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement principles.
  • Application of Project Management best practices.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills including proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, ERP software, Power BI or another analytics tool.
  • Experienced inspecting solder, crimping, conformal coating, and surface-mounted devices in accordance with IPC-J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.
  • ASQ Quality Engineer Certification (CQM, CQE) with lead auditor training and QMS assessment and implementation experience.
  • Passion for advancing the current state of the art of the commercial and military aviation industries.
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position may require weekend work and longer hours to support organizational goals.
